Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated International Women’s day with great fervour
and enthusiasm under the dynamic guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay
Sareen. It was organized by Women Empowerment Cell lead by Dr. Ramnita Saini
Sharda and Mrs. Protima Mander. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen welcomed the Resource
Person Dr. Tanya Sohi and congratulated the cell for organizing the event. She
voiced her opinion that strong women build strong nations. So empowering women
leads to empowerment of the nation at large. The unique part of the celebration
was address by student of Political Science (Hons.) which exemplifies the fact
that HMV is incessantly working towards empowering women by providing them
ample opportunities. Manvi Sharma talked about the various laws concerning
women and also highlighted exciting lacunas in these laws. The address was
followed by an interactive session with the students. Speaker of the day, Dr Tanya Sohi, Assistant
Professor of English , Rajiv Gandhi National Law University, addressed the
students virtually on ‘Retelling Her-Story to mark the International Women’s
Day. She spoke on relevance of stories to record experiences, fears and to
construct identity. Stories are culturally powerful representations, therefore
its required to not only re-tell these stories but also question. She talked about
mythological stories that construct reality: Medusa, Pandora, Eve, Sita,
Draupadi. She highlighted that these stories are now being re-written by
authors like Margaret Etwood and Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. Cinematic
representation of human is also now moving towards themes based on women. Dr.
Ramnita Saini Sharda presented Vote of thanks to the Resource Person.
