organized a seminar on Indigenous Cancer Care Equipments for Societal Benefits
under the aegis of IQAC in collaboration with IAPT RC-02 under DBT Star Scheme,
Govt. of India. The resource
person was Sardar Manjit Singh, Ex-Director of Design, Manufacturing and
Automation Group, BARC Mumbai on 6th March, 2024. Principal, Prof. Dr. Mrs. Ajay Sareen, Dean Academics
and Head of Zoology Department-Dr. Seema Marwaha, Mrs. Saloni Sharma-Head of PG

Science and Technology. Dean Innovation and Head of PG Department of Botany Dr.
Anjana Bhatia, introduced the resource person to the students. S. Manjit Singh explained
about the Indigenous Teletherapy Cobalt Machine-Bhabhatron I and II which were developed
by BARC for cancer treatment in the year 2005 and 2006, respectively. This
Indigenously developed Cancer care equipment was much advance than the imported
machines in terms of low power consumption, advanced battery backup to overcome
the power cuts especially in rural areas, enhanced safety by automatic and full
collimator closure during emergency, asymmetric collimator with 60 tungsten
leaves which provides improved conformity and possibility to adjust to variety
of shapes and sizes of desired organ in focus and remote monitoring of machine.
He further added that this Indigenous machine has reduced the cost for
establishing radiotherapy facility since most of the components/spares were
made in India. Furthermore, they have developed indigenous radiotherapy
Simulator used for tumor localization and radiotherapy planning. In addition to
this, the source flask required for transportation of radioactive material used
in Bhabhatron was also developed by BARC which further reduces the cost of
cancer treatment. These indigenously developed cancer care equipments are
supplied to many parts of our country and exported to other countries as well. All
students of B.Sc. Medical, Non-Medical and C.Sc. and all the science faculty
members attended the seminar. Many students actively participated by
interacting with the resource person. Head of P.G. Department of Physics-Mrs.
Saloni Sharma, presented vote of thanks. On this occasion, Dr. Anjana Bhatia
conducted the stage.
