HMV Organized Hands on Training on Vermicomposting under DBT Star Scheme


 

Zoology Department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar successfully organized a Hands on Training on Vermicomposting under DBT Star Scheme of the School teachers. Teachers attended Nature Study Camp during 3-day residential Workshop on  “Building Skills for Nature: Cluster Level Master Trainers Workshop”. The training aimed to provide practical knowledge and skills in sustainable waste management, empowering educators to integrate eco-friendly practices into their schools. Principal, Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen, emphasized the importance of vermicomposting in fostering environmental stewardship and sustainable waste management. In her address, she highlighted the College's commitment to promote eco-conscious initiatives and appreciated the Department of Zoology for taking the lead in this significant endeavour. Dr. Seeam Marwaha, Head of the Department, elaborated on the scientific principles underlying vermicomposting and its relevance in addressing organic waste challenges. She emphasised that such sustainable practices could contribute to creating greener educational environments. Mr. Ravi Kumar, Assistant Professor and In-Charge of the Vermicomposting Unit provided hands-on demonstrations, covering all stages of vermicomposting, from preparation and maintenance to harvesting nutrient-rich compost. The participants actively participated in discussions and practical activities, gaining valuable insights into the process. Mr. Sachin from Lab provided assistance in making the necessary arrangements for the workshop. The session concluded with an interactive question-answer session where participants shared their experiences, clarified their doubts and expressed plans to initiate vermicomposting projects in their schools. This initiative exemplifies HMV, Jalandhar’s dedication to promoting sustainable practices and raising environmental awareness through education and skill-based training.
