Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya has added another significant
milestone to its record of excellence by securing the prestigious Changemaker
Award–2026 at the national level under the able leadership of Principal Dr.
Ekta Khosla. Radiating excellence and reaffirming its unwavering commitment to
environmental stewardship and sustainable practices, the institution emerged as
one of the top ten colleges of the country in the competition organised by
National EduTrust of India. In recognition of her inspiring leadership and
transformative initiatives, Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla was also conferred with award
of honour. As many as 538 colleges from across India participated in the
competition. The institution was recognised for it’s Solid Waste Management
initiative, under which biodegradable waste such as fruit and vegetable peels,
leftover food and plant residue collected from the college canteen, juice
corner and hostel mess were scientifically processed in compost pits with the
help of microorganisms, fungi and earthworms to produce organic manure. These
microbes break down complex organic matter through biodegradation, resulting in
useful products like biogas and compost. This practice not only helps in
reducing air, soil and water pollution but also prevents the emission of
harmful greenhouse gases, thereby contributing to public health and
environmental sustainability. Under the guidance of Nodal Officer Dr. Anjana
Bhatia, the NSS and NCC units along with the Department of Fine Arts enhanced
the site with creative “Best out of Waste” installations. The solid waste
management corner has become a source of inspiration for students,
promoting the message of minimum use, reuse, recycling and regeneration. On
this occasion, Dr. Sumit, Dr. Neeru Bharti, Dr. Jyoti Gogia, Lt. Sonia
Mahendru, Ms. Harmanu and Dr. Shailendra were also present.
