The Planning Forum of the PG Department of
Economics, Hans Raj Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Jalandhar, organized an insightful
industrial visit to the Central Institute of Hand Tools (CIHT), functioning
under the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The visit was held
under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Ekta Khosla and the guidance of
Head of the Department, Dr. Shallu Batra. Faculty members Mrs. Jyotika Minhas
and Miss Shruti Talwar accompanied the students and ensured a well-organized
and academically enriching experience. The visit was coordinated by Planning
Forum members Dhra Mahajan, Neetika, and Jaya, whose dedicated efforts ensured
its smooth execution. The students gained valuable exposure to modern
industrial technologies and manufacturing processes. The robotics and
mechatronics laboratory offered a live demonstration of hydraulic circuits and
automated systems, including advanced robotic setups capable of object
detection and pick-and-drop operations, highlighting the growing role of
automation in industry. The CAD and computer laboratories introduced students
to advanced design software used in industrial operations. Students also
observed key manufacturing processes such as die and plastic casting, heat
treatment techniques for enhancing tool durability, and shot blasting for
surface finishing. They witnessed demonstrations of surface grinding machines,
Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), laser cutting, metal sheet inspection,
Computer Numerical Control systems, including CNC lathe machines and Vertical
Machining Centers (VMC), both essential for high-precision and automated
manufacturing. The educational trip also included a visit to the Jang-e-Azadi
Memorial, adding a meaningful historical dimension to the experience. The visit
proved to be highly informative, successfully bridging the gap between
theoretical learning and practical application, and equipping students with
deeper insights into contemporary industrial practices and technological
advancements.
