An awareness drive to raise consciousness
regarding the rights of free speech and free press was carried out in the
premises of Hans Raj Mahila Mahila Maha Vidyalaya, Jalandhar. Principal Dr.
(Mrs.) Ajay Sareen spoke that a free press has the great responsibility as a
supervisory body of the society or country. Only a free press can guarantee
people’s access to information and assist to put up a knowledgeable, crystal
clear and responsible human race. She said that freedom of press is the
very base of a democratic and fair society. Mrs. Ramnita delved upon the fact
that every human is born with basic human rights and freedom of expression is
the prerogative of every human being regardless of cast, colour, creed or
gender. Dr. Anjana Bhatia informed the students that UNESCO promotes the safety
of journalists throughout the world, believing they have the right to work free
from the threat of violence to ensure the right to freedom of opinion and
expression for all. On this occasion, students participated in declamations and
quiz. Students also put up banners to support freedom of press. They were shown
videos regarding safety of journalists. Mrs. Rama Sharma also pointed out that
media is the fourth pillar of democracy. Dr. Rajeev Kumar and Ms. Alka also
expressed their views in regard to freedom of press.
ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਸਪੀਚ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਵਧਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਹੰਸ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿਲਾ ਮਹਾਵਿਦਿਆਲਾ, ਜਲੰਧਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਗਰੂਕਤਾ ਅਭਿਆਨ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ। ਪ੍ਰਿੰਸੀਪਲ ਡਾ. ਅਜੇ ਸਰੀਨ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਸੰਬੋਧਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਫ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਦੇ ਕੋਲ ਹੀ ਸਮਾਜ ਅਤੇ ਦੇਸ਼ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਰਾਨੀ ਦਾ ਜ਼ਿੰਮਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਸਿਰਫ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਹੀ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਉਪਲੱਬਧ ਕਰਵਾ ਸਕਦੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਰਦਰਸ਼ੀ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਿੰਮੇਵਾਰ ਨਾਗਰਿਕ ਬਣਾਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਲੋਕਤਾਂਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਸਮਾਜ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ ਹੀ ਫ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਹੈ। ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਰਮਨੀਤਾ ਸੈਨੀ ਸ਼ਾਰਦਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਹਰ ਬੰਦਾ ਕੁਝ ਮਾਨਵੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ ਇਹ ਹਰ ਬੰਦੇ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਫਿਰ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਹ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਜਾਤੀ, ਰੰਗ ਜਾਂ ਧਰਮ ਦਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਡਾ. ਅੰਜਨਾ ਭਾਟਿਆ ਨੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੂਰੀ ਦੁਨਿਆ ਵਿੱਚ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਦਾ ਜਿੰਮਾ ਯੂਨੇਸਕੋ ਲੈਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਯੂਨੇਸਕੋ ਦਾ ਮੰਨਣਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਅਧਿਕਾਰ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਮੌਕੇ ਤੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਡੈਕਲਾਮੇਸ਼ਨ ਅਤੇ ਕਵਿਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਭਾਗ ਲਿਆ। ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥਣਾਂ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਦੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨੂੰ ਦਰਸ਼ਾਉਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੈਨਰ ਪ੍ਰਦਰਸ਼ਿਤ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਤਰਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬਧਿਤ ਵੀਡਿਓ ਵੀ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਗਏ। ਸ਼੍ਰੀਮਤੀ ਰਮਾ ਸ਼ਰਮਾ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਮੀਡੀਯਾ ਲੋਕਤੰਤਰ ਦਾ ਚੌਥਾ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ ਹੈ। ਡਾ. ਰਾਜੀਵ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਅਲਕਾ ਨੇ ਵੀ ਪ੍ਰੈਸ ਵੀ ਆਜ਼ਾਦੀ ਨਾਲ ਸੰਬੰਧਤ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਸਾਂਝੇ ਕੀਤੇ।
