A seven day DBT sponsored Summer School in Biological
Sciences started at HMV under the able guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Mrs.
Ajay Sareen. Chief Guest, Dr. Satish Sharma, Director Colleges, DAV CMC, New
Delhi inaugurated the Summer School by lightening the lamp. On this occasion, Sh. Arvind Ghai, LC, Mrs.
Kusum Sharma also lighted the lamp. Floral welcome was accorded to the Chief
Guest by Madam Principal and organizing committee. Coordinator of the summer
school Dr. Seema Marwaha gave an introduction to the summer school and also
welcomed the students and dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion Principal Dr. Sareen said that it is very
important to attend summer schools as they inform students about latest trends
and techniques in sciences and inculcate research aptitude in young budding
minds. Dr. Satish Sharma, Director Colleges also applauded the efforts of
Principal and staff for organizing academic summer camp.
Mr. Arvind Ghai also stressed upon the
importance of such summer schools which go a long way in satisfying the queries
of students. The first session was conducted by Dr. P.K. Sharma, Dean Student
Welfare, Kurukshetra University. He spoke at length about the future drugs
which include modified DNAs, antisense strategies etc. He said that drugs and
medicines are actually same it depends upon how we use a chemical. Dr. PK
Sharma is the pioneer in research of double headed nucleosides. Second session
was conducted by Mr.
Harpreet Singh from Bioinformatics Department in which students were taught
about protein structure visualization. Students were also given practical hands
on training on problem structure visualization using Pymol software. On this
occasion, Dr. Ekta Khosla, Dr. Meena Sharma, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Mr. Harpreet
Singh, Dr. Nitika Kapoor, Mrs. Ramandeep, Ms.
Avantika, Ms. Disha, Dr. Kanika, Ms. Harpreet Kaur, Ms. Jaswinder were
present. Stage was conducted by Dr.
Anjana Bhatia.
