A visit
to a Synergy Pathology Laboratory, Jalandhar was
organized by Zoology Department under DBT Star Scheme and the inspiring guidance of Principal, Prof. (Dr.)
Mrs. Ajay Sareen for the students of B.Sc. Med. The aim of the visit was to
provide students with practical exposure to diagnostic procedures and
laboratory techniques. Dr. Seema Marwaha, Head of the Zoology
Department, motivated students to actively engage in the lab visit and provided
guidance on preparing a project report based on their observations. During
the visit, students observed various sections of the lab, including hematology,
microbiology, biochemistry, and histopathology. Dr. Deeksha
Choudhary (M.D. Pathology), Director of Synergy Lab, elaborated on essential
lab safety protocols, techniques for sample collection, handling, and storage,
as well as the necessary precautions for processing samples. She also
emphasized the importance of proper bio-waste disposal to ensure a safe and
hygienic laboratory environment. The lab technicians demonstrated
the process of blood sample collection, centrifugation, and analysis of blood
parameters such as hemoglobin levels, blood sugar, and complete blood count
(CBC). Advanced diagnostic equipment, including automated analyzers and
microscopes, were used to examine blood smears and detect infections. In the
microbiology section, students learned about culture techniques for bacterial
identification and antibiotic sensitivity testing. The biochemistry unit
demonstrated biochemical assays for liver and kidney function tests. The
histopathology department showcased the preparation of tissue samples for
microscopic examination, explaining the significance of biopsy in disease
diagnosis. Dr. Sakshi Verma expressed heartfelt appreciation
to Dr. Deeksha Choudhary and her team for their valuable time and contributions
by presenting a planter as a token of gratitude. The visit was highly
informative, allowing students to witness real-time diagnostic procedures and
understand the role of pathology in healthcare. It also provided insights into
laboratory safety protocols and quality control measures.
