Science Departments of HMV enjoying the glorious Golden Jubilee Year

 


Building on 50 years of heritage, the Science department of Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya celebrated the momentous occasion of its Golden Jubilee in 2020. HMV reflects a glorious history of pride and is ennobled as a College of Excellence in imparting education and especially Skilled Courses and the department of Science owes a lion’s share in the spectacular success of the institution with its bedazzling achievements. If man possesses the power of thinking, science has the power to transform the ideas into reality and it is this scientific spark, the department aims to ignite in its curious learners.

Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology are identified as Star Departments. HMV is the only college of Punjab which offers the course of MSc Bioinformatics. The Biotechnology department of HMV has excellent infrastructure. The mammoth strength of Sciences at HMV depends on International/National Linkages/MOUs and the State-of-Art infrastructure it possesses in the form of Plant Tissue Culture lab,  Animal Tissue Culture lab, Start Up lab etc. The usage of these labs which promote the research activities at UG and PG level is not restricted to in- house researchers alone. The Botanical garden with its rare collection of herbs and plants is a priceless treasure for not only the institute but surrounding areas as well.

The Sciences have also undertaken copious and innovative ventures in the form of Bio Gas Plants, Vermi Composting, Paper Recycling Unit and Organic Farming. Organizing International Conferences, Workshops, Webinars and Hosting INSPIRE camps is an integrated and regular phenomenon of the department. Without doubt the alumnae of the department are employed at prestigious positions globally and spreading the glory of its Alma mater far and wide.

Many research projects with thrust areas like Biofuels, Nanotechnology, Microbial Remediation have been taken up by the Science Faculty. Research is one of the forte of Science at HMV and students at Post Graduate and Undergraduate levels are encouraged to take up research. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen congratulated the SCIENCE department and expressed her belief that in the coming times the Sciences at HMV will continue to contribute towards empowering women and realize the dream of increasing the participation of women in Science and Technology. She further added that many teachers have put their blood and soul into making the Science department of HMV one of the best in the region. The excellence of the department speaks through the extraordinary and brilliant alumnae which have been placed at various institutes in all parts of the world including BARC, Mumbai, IHBT, Palampur, Ireland, Canada, USA, Germany,  Scotland, Singapore to name a few. The college has attained excellent rankings by various national/private agencies and continues to make a difference in the life of women of the nation.
