The Science Camp INSPIRE
organized by Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya had another successful day. The first session was given by Dr. Andrew
Lynn, Associate Prof., JNU, New Delhi . He covered the area of Bioinformatics and
talked mostly about William C. Cambell, Satoshi Omuna, Yougou tu contribution
in physiology or medicine for which they got Noble Prizes in 2015. He discussed that around one billion
people are affected by NTD’s (Neglected Tropical diseases) like Malaria, TB and
round warms. He presented the global
distribution of NTO. He also explained
the structure of DNA, RNA, proteins, Central dogma, enzymes and catalysts. Furthermore, he educated about metabolome
mapping by taking example of photosynthesis process. He enlightened that drugs against any disease
or organism can be prepared by studying the genes/proteins present in
pathogens. He also told ways to identify
proteins in organisms.
The
second session was conducted by Mr. Jaswinder Singh, who is national award
winner for popularizing science and technology among children in 2013, also
Shiksha Rattan. He took both practical
and theory sessions with students. Mr.
Singh, brought with him mobile van that is designed and equipped with all the
things needed for science and technical experiments. He enlightened interesting methods to impart
learning for science, maths and other technical subjects. He also discussed easy methods for retaining
mathematical tables. He taught ways of
handling experiments in entertaining ways.
Different
sections of students were made and divided into many groups for both practical
and theory sessions on Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Botany bioinformatics,
biotechnology. These practical sessions
were conducted by the teachers of the college.
On this occasion, Principal Dr. Rekha Kalia Bhardwaj, said that she is
very happy that the students are able to learn from the experiments of such
notable persons. She appreciated the
efforts of the department of science and technology. The Core Committee for the fair consisted of
Mrs. M. Syal, Mrs. Kiranjit Kaur, Mrs. Jyoti Kaul, Mrs. Rakesh Uppal, Dr. Meena
Sharma, Dr. Jitender Kumar were present there.
