Bearing high
the torch to illuminate the young minds HMV hosted the 6th
consecutive edition of five day INSPIRE Internship Camp-the flagship programme
of Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India under the motivation
and guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. The event initiated
with the lighting of the lamp and DAV Anthem. Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen
welcomed the guests of the day ADC(D) Mr. Kulwant Singh, Guest of Honour and
Keynote Speaker Dr. Pratap Kumar Pati and Justice (Retd.) N.K. Sud (Vice
President DAVCMC) with green Planters.
In her welcome
address Dr. Ajay Sareen extended a warm welcome and wishes to the young
participants and the dignitaries. Elaborating on the importance of science she
emphasized that the passion for science is integral to all scientific
discourses. She encouraged the students to work hard and quoted the famous
proverb that winners don’t do different things but they do the things differently
and this makes the difference. Introducing
the concept note Dr. Harpreet Singh, HOD Bioinformatics and camp co-ordinator
said that this camp is the brain child of department of Science &
Technology and gives an opportunity to experience the thrill of innovation and
inventions.
In the inaugural
address ADC (D) Mr. Kulwant Singh who is an altruist, a philanthropist and a
benevolent personality reflected on the legacy of Indian scientific tradition.
He urged the participants to realize their full potential and remain focused
towards their target. Exhorting the importance of artificial intelligence, he articulated
on the need of mastering the technology for the benefit of mankind. He said
that the participants have the capability to become the best known names in the
world and they should ignite this spark in them.
The guest of
honour Dr. Pratap Kumar Pati, Head department of Biotechnology GNDU Complimented
the institution on its great accomplishments and remarked that this camp guides
the students to the right path. Giving his blessings to the students Justice
(Retd.) N.K. Sud (Vice President DAVCMC) reiterated on the need to remain
focused and pursue the goals with hard work and dedication. He advised the
students not be misled by political influences and distract their minds.
In his keynote
address Dr. P.K. Pati detailed on the topic “Biotechnological Intervention in
Plant Propagation and Improvement. He highlighted the essential role of plants
in human life. He elaborated on advanced propagation methods, Plant Tissue
Culture and genetically modified crops. In the post lunch session parallel
practicals were held in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Biotechnology and Bio
Informatics. The pre dinner session was facilitated by Dr. Kunwar Rajeev from
DAV College Jalandhar. He gave valuable tips on enhancing memory and mind.
More than 200
students participated in the INSPIRE Internship camp organized by the team led
by Dr. Harpreet and comrpsing of Dr. Neelam Sharma, Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dr. Ekta
Khosla, Mrs. Saloni Sharma, Dr. Anjana Bhatia, Mrs. Gagandeep and Dr. Jitender
Kumar. The stage was conducted by Dr. Anjana Bhatia.
