Department of Bio-informatics, Biotechnology, Physics and Chemistry of Hans Raj
Mahila Maha Vidyalaya organized an educational visit to IISER, Mohali, under
the able guidance of Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Ajay Sareen. This visit has been
planned to impact practical exposure of various scientific instruments and
strategies to the science students under the aegis of the DBT Star College
Scheme of the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science &
Technology. Dr. Harpreet Singh Head PG Department of Bioinformatics, Ms.
Hemlata Assistant Professor in Chemistry and Ms. Tanuja, Assistant Professor in
Physics accompanied a group of 44 students to IISER Mohali. The visit aimed to
familiarize students with the research facilities at IISER, Mohali and to
inspire students through interaction with faculty and researchers to know about
various research projects being carried out at IISER. A guided tour of the
campus allowed students to explore various laboratories and research facilities
including Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) facility, Chemistry lab, physics
lab, and Microbial Biotechnology & Fermentation lab. Students also visited
the High Performance Computing Facility which is used to analyze huge amount of
genomic and other biological data using Bioinformatics approaches. The visit
increased the awareness in students about various scientific discipline and
their applications. The entire group extended heartfelt thanks to the Director
Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Dean
Internationals and Outreach Prof. Amit Kulshrestha for giving them this unique
opportunity and their hospitality. Special thanks were also extended to Ms.
Bharati from the outreach team, IISER Mohali for her guidance in planning and
conduction of this educational visit.
