Under the able
guidance of Principal Prof. Dr. Ajay Sareen, the Eco Club and D.D. Pant
Botanical Society of the PG Department of Botany at Hans Raj Mahila Maha
Vidyalaya, Jalandhar, organized a vibrant Plant Diversity Fest at the Science
Lawns. The event was held under the aegis of PSCST, the College Development
Council, GNDU and the Ministry of Environment and Forest, Government of India.
Celebrated in conjunction with National Science Day and Holi, the fest aimed to
promote sustainability, biodiversity and the aesthetic value of plants. The
highlight of the fest was the Potted Plant Variety Show, showcasing diverse
categories including Foliage Plants, Flowering Plants, Succulents & Cacti,
Medicinal & Aromatic Plants and Creative Eco-Arrangements. Another unique
attraction was the Fruit & Vegetable Basket Arrangement Competition, where
participants artistically displayed plant diversity through innovative and
eco-friendly designs. Faculty members and students participated with great
enthusiasm, presenting lush, well-maintained plants in creatively arranged
displays. The Eco-Arrangements Using Plant Parts segment emphasized
sustainability, as participants skillfully incorporated plant fibers, gums,
woods and other natural materials to craft innovative décor. The competition
was judged based on plant health and aesthetics, uniqueness, theme presentation
and sustainability and the best entries were awarded prizes and certificates,
recognizing the participants’ dedication to environmental awareness and plant
conservation. Students from various colleges participated. Speaking on the occasion,
Principal Dr. Ajay Sareen lauded the Botany Department for fostering a love for
nature and sustainability through such innovative initiatives. Dr. Anjana
Bhatia, Head of the Department, highlighted how the event encouraged young
minds to appreciate plant diversity and embrace eco-friendly practices. Dr.
Ramandeep, Incharge of D.D. Pant Botanical Society, Dr. Shaveta, Ms. Harpreet,
and Dr. Shuchi emphasized the importance of nature and plants in our daily
lives. Adding an artistic dimension to the fest, the Department of Cosmetology
under the guidance of Ms. Mukti adorned participants with floral tattoos, while
Eco-Physics models were displayed under the supervision of Dr. Saloni. The
Design, Fashion Design and Fine Arts Departments organized eco-art events under
the guidance of Dr. Neeru Bharti, Dr. Rakhi, Mrs. Navneeta and Mrs. Jaskomal,
adding creativity to the celebration. Meanwhile, the Home Science Department
contributed by setting up delightful food stalls. A special attraction was the
Herbal Color Stall, set up by Ms. Lipika from KVM, adding an eco-friendly touch
to the Holi celebrations. The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest
Dr. Neelima Jerath, Dr. Meena Sethi from Kapurthala, who served as the judge.
Other dignitaries included Dr. Seema Marwaha, Dean Academics, Mrs. Deepshikha,
Incharge Science, Dr. Jatinder, Dr. Harpreet Singh, Mrs. Purnima, Mr. Sumit,
Mr. Rajinder and Mr. Pawan, who applauded the initiative and encouraged
students to continue their efforts in environmental conservation. The Plant
Diversity Fest 2025 beautifully blended science, creativity and environmental
consciousness, reaffirming HMV’s unwavering commitment to a greener, more
sustainable future.
